LIGHT MATTER MIND III

space : time : apparatus

immersive light-matter installation, 2024
inspired by the Agential Realism of Karen Barad
-quantum physicist, feminist, philosopher-

LIGHT MATTER MIND installations explore the interplay of light-sensitive objects, spontaneous movement, variable light and the human body-mind-system.

The installations invite careful observation and participation. They encourage new relationships and reflections.

Physical reality is presented in a way that temporarily suspends our perception of space, of time, and of ourselves.

These installations invoke the physicality of analogue light-matter interactions. In contrast to an environment filled with computer-generated imagery, all visual phenomena are generated in real-time through the interaction of light and matter.

The materials used appear simple, but are installed and staged in such a way as to reveal some of their physical complexity. Through refraction, diffraction, scattering, reflection, and superimposition. light and materials create multi-dimensional choreographies of astonishing beauty. The immediacy of the experience reminds us of the generative power of matter.

The appearance can be reminiscent of virtual realities, chemical microstructures, submarine environments, or even scenarios found in cosmic imagery. Haptic boundaries of both, physical objects and architectural space are visually dissolved.

The audience is invited to interact with the installation using flashlights, and in doing so it becomes part of a joyful process which entangles the mind-body-system, light, materials, and space.
